“Probably the best living jazz violinist” - Jeff Healey
A musician with a wide-ranging set of skills, Drew Jurecka has worked on Grammy-winning albums, has performed worldwide on several instruments, has appeared on hundreds of recordings, and has written and arranged for chamber groups and orchestras worldwide.
Originally trained as a classical violinist, Drew got his degree at the Cleveland Institute of Music, before moving back to Toronto to play with the legendary guitarist Jeff Healey. Since then, Drew has worked in nearly every musical genre imaginable in a variety of roles. Drew now works from his studio in Toronto - producing albums, writing arrangements and recording on Violin, Viola, Bandoneon, Mandolin, Clarinet and Saxophone for Canadian and international collaborators. He loves helping musicians, composers and songwriters bring their artistic vision to life.
Drew plays and tours regularly with several groups:
The Venuti String Quartet (Violin) which released an album of Drew’s original 4-movement strings quartet in 2025.
Payadora (Bandoneon) who’s most recent record won Album of the Year at the Ontario Folk Music Awards in 2024, the German Weltmusikpreis, and which spent several weeks at the top of the World Music charts in Europe. Payadora’s newest project The Legend Of Carau is currently available in online format, and will be released as a hardback storybook and CD in June 2025
Schmaltz & Pepper, (Bandoneon, Violin, Mandolin) an exciting new Klezmer-fusion project, set to release their debut album in May 2025.
The Drew Jurecka Trio, which released an album in 2018, and which can be heard in clubs and small halls across Canada and abroad.
Drew is the music director for Jill Barber, for whom he has produced and orchestrated 3 albums (and working on a fourth). In addition to shows in North America, Europe and Japan with small ensembles, Jill and Drew are about to perform a newly created show “Under Paris Skies” with several symphony orchestras across Canada.
